Segway Human Transporter

The Segway is a two-wheeled electric vehicle that according to the product editors at Amazon.com is “a practical, efficient, slightly miraculous, and an undeniably fun way of getting around” and they are convinced that, “anyone who tries a Segway HT will be smiling in minutes.” It has a range of 11-15 miles, a top speed of 12.5 mph. We chose it because not only is it great technology that can pay for itself in fairly short time frame given vehicle ownership and maintenance costs and time savings, but also it has a compelling range of community and environmental benefits including: reduced congestion, reduced noise pollution, reduced fuel consumption, cleaner air, and reduced environmental stress. More generally, imagine the overall positive impacts if a majority of people used a Segway to get around their communities.
