Burning hydrogen in your living roomFinally, a use for hydrogen that's not related to next-generation energy production or fuel cells. Strictly for the "wow" factor, since it's probably less efficient at producing heat than an ordinary electric heater or gas fireplace, the Aqueon fireplace by Heat & Glo uses electrolysis to separate water (preferably distilled, but tap water is ok too) into oxygen and hydrogen, then burns the hydrogen and some of the oxygen, releasing the rest of the oxygen into the room. It requires no venting, and probably costs more than a small car. Possibly even more than a large car. Posted: 8/6/2005 8:05:58 AM |
